Shelter Talk – TNR Trapping cats Community cats and TNRM

What is a community cat? This term refers to any outdoor, unowned, free roaming cat. Whether tame, feral, adult, he or she may or may not have a caretaker. The science and studies regarding care and management of community cats has created another acronym, TNRM. And what is TNRM? It’s an acronym that stands for Trap/Neuter/Return/Monitor. This is where the cat is humanely trapped, taken to a vet for spay or neuter, vaccines, and ear tipped. (One ear is tipped during spay/neuter surgery for identification). The advantages of TNRM are greatly reduced nuisance behaviors such as spraying, fighting, and no additional kittens are born. Help from our community is so very important and appreciated!
