Activity: Together we will brainstorm the needs of a pet followed by a writing activity. Then we will learn how to draw Ginger the cat, step by step.
Materials Needed: pencils, colored markers or pencils, black Sharpies (or black pen for outlining)

Topics Covered: the benefits of adopting a pet vs. breeding, how to choose the best pet for your family, the emotions of an animal, the rewards of pet ownership, the role/purpose of the community animal shelter

Skills Taught: predicting, inference
Activity: Following a discussion about the role North Bay Animal Services provides for Petaluma, students will complete a short writing assignment, followed by drawing some animals that might be found at an animal shelter.
