Frequently Asked Questions
1. How can I be sure that the remains I receive are from my pet?
Koefran Services uses an identification tag that is filled out by the animal hospital. This tag stays with the pet until the pet is cremated. During the actual cremation the identification tag is removed and attached to a clipboard on the cremation unit. When the ashes are removed, the identification tag goes back with the remains and is then transferred to our boxing room where a memorial card with the pet’s identification number replaces the original identification tag. At this time, the urn is boxed and labeled for shipment back to the animal hospital.
2. How long does it take to get my pets remains returned to me?
From the time that Koefran Services picks up the pet at the animal hospital, you should allow about one week for the remains to be returned. If a paw print or engraved urn is ordered, you should allow about two weeks.
3. What do you do with the ashes that owners do not want returned?
Koefran scatters cremated remains on private property in the Sacramento Valley Delta or the Sierra Nevada Foothills.
4. Is the paw print really from my pet?
Yes. Each paw print is an actual impression in clay that is then hand painted and fired twice in our kiln.
5. How are the remains of a private cremation returned to me?
Koefran Services returns the remains back to the animal hospital of origin via United Parcel Service (UPS). You will then be contacted by the doctor or staff that your pet’s remains are available for pick-up.
6. Does Koefran offer scattering at sea?
Yes, if requested on a private cremation, Koefran will scatter your pet’s ashes at sea. We know that some people and their pets love the ocean and that some pet owners appreciate this option.
